The Cottage on Turner is a co-working space designed to offer respite from the confines of work-from-home life and the anonymity of coffee shop hopping. Its aim is to foster a sense of community and collegiality among those who work there. I worked closely with the owners to translate their visions into their branding, highlighting the historicity of the building itself.
I drew branding inspiration from the unique environment the business occupies: a historic building nestled in the heart of a bustling downtown area. The goal was to craft a brand that felt timeless—one that seemed like it had always been part of the city’s fabric—while also capturing the attention of a modern clientele. This led to the integration of both classic elements and modern design trends playing off each other in a fun way.
I selected a typeface that carried strong branding power right out of the box—ensuring it would serve as a solid foundation for the entire identity. The result is a brand that feels rooted in history yet resonates with today’s audience, striking the perfect balance between classic charm and contemporary appeal, all while maintaining a sense of fun and personality.
In designing the supporting brand assets, I drew inspiration from the way branding used to be more flexible and varied, particularly in earlier time periods when consistency wasn't always a priority. As a nod to this, I created a range of supporting assets with diverse looks and textures, adding depth and character to the overall brand. This approach allows the brand to feel rich and layered, with a sense of nostalgia.
